The Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE) is pleased to acknowledge George Epstein as the SAMPE 2017 Mort Kushner Award winner. Formerly named the SAMPE Space Award, the Mort Kushner Lifetime Achievement Award was established to recognize those who have dedicated exceptional service to the Society, promoting the ideals of SAMPE, extending over many years.

Mort Kushner (1922-1999) best exemplified the ideals of the volunteer spirit. A long-time enthusiastic member of the SAMPE Seattle Chapter, Mort was very active in both the local and international levels of SAMPE spanning 40 years. He served as International President for three terms - 1968-1970.

George Epstein has been a SAMPE Member since July 1, 1978. He is a SAMPE Fellow and George Lubin Award recipient. His commitment to the Los Angeles Chapter of SAMPE is admirable. He continues to write newsletters for the chapter, attend chapter meetings, and support chapter activities in any way that he can. He led the chapter’s 2016 Membership Drive. George is a U.S. Navy Veteran and served during WWII. Additionally, he is a graduate of MIT. George received his honor during a SAMPE Los Angeles Chapter Meeting in June.
