UTA Racing Wins Big at CAMX 2018

Taken from Anirudh Markkassery – Team Manager, UTA Racing

“Solvay, Toray, Teijin, Thermal Control Products Inc., Magnolia Advanced Materials and Chem Trend are just a few of a long list of big names in the composites and advanced materials industry that have agreed to sponsor UTA Racing.”

UTA Racing from the University of Texas at Arlington had a unique opportunity to showcase their F-18 and F-13 cars October 15-18 at CAMX 2018, located at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, TX. The Composites and Advanced Materials Expo (The CAMX) is regarded as one of the largest in the world and this year, co-located with CAMX, included the Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) Expo.

In previous years, UTA Racing attended CAMX as a guest with AirTech – but this year, UTA Racing had its very own 10’ X 30’ booth, made possible with the support of SAMPE and the ACMA, CAMX organizers. CAMX covered all the expenses of the booth including the carpet, table, electricity, back drops, admission and parking which would have otherwise totaled about $20,000. CAMX also invited a representative from the University of Texas at Arlington to present on a panel discussion during the closing ceremony luncheon on the topic of New, Unusual and/or Future Uses for Composites and Advanced Materials.

There was an amazing showcasing of UTA Racing’s cars, which was quite the attraction for many of the attendees. This provided an opportunity to catch up and rekindle with already established sponsor-connections and gain nearly 30 new sponsors. Solvay, Toray, Teijin, Thermal Control Products Inc., Magnolia Advanced Materials and Chem Trend are just a few of a long list of big names in the composites and advanced materials industry that have agreed to sponsor UTA Racing.

Most of the interested sponsors are manufacturers of composite fabrics and pre-pregs, epoxy and resin systems, advanced plastics, honeycombs and foam cores, and machining tools.

During the closing ceremony luncheon Dr. Robert Taylor of UTA spoke on the panel concerning New, Unusual and/or Future Uses for Composites and Advanced Materials. The panel included Terrance Barken of the National Graphene Council, Madeline Wehrle of ACMA and speakers from the University of Delaware and the University of Maine.

This was a fantastic event for the students and team members who visited the expo. This entire event wouldn’t have been a possibility without the support of Tom Dobbins, Heather Rhoderick, Carman Long, Michelle Tubb, Dan Coughlin and the entire staff of ACMA and SAMPE. UTA Racing would also like thank every team member that took time to attend CAMX 2018 making this year’s event a huge success.
